I’m Just Being the Parent I Wish I Had When I Was Young

I may tell you I love you more than 100 times a day. I’m not over exaggerating. I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.

I may cuddle you a lot and want to kiss you all the time. Don’t get sick of me. I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.

I may pry sometimes when you’re feeling bad and won’t tell me what’s wrong. Ask you over and over again if you’re sure you’re okay. I’m not trying to be annoying. I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.

You may feel like you never get a break from me. That your dad and I don’t get out enough. I’m not trying to smother you with my presence. I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.

When high school comes and there’s events planned, I may let you stay out a little later with your friends to celebrate. It’s not that I don’t have rules. I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.

When you do something wrong, I won’t scream at you. I won’t call you bad names and make you feel less about yourself. It’s not that I don’t have a backbone. I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.

When you start dating, I’ll try my very best to get to know your significant other. Seeing you happy makes me happy. It’s not that I’m overbearing. I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.

When you go to college, you won’t work multiple jobs, juggle school work, intern, pay all kinds of bills, and cry when rent payment is due. Your dad and I will have it covered. No, we’re not spoiling you. I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.

I may act like your friend most of the time, but most importantly I am your mother. I will protect you, fight for you, and love you with my whole being.

I’m just being the parent I wish I had when I was young.
