Which Oils Help With What?

1. Peppermint

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: allergies, respiratory function, increasing energy, repelling bugs, helping focus, cooling body temperature down, baking, upset stomach.

People suffering from mild forms of depression may benefit from peppermint oil due its energizing, uplifting properties. Peppermint oil used in a bath may provide relief from feelings of lethargy caused by depression.

Uses:

  • After working out, dilute a few drops of Peppermint in Vegetable Oil, and use it in a post-workout massage to cool sore muscles.
  • Add Peppermint and Eucalyptus Radiata to hot bath water and enjoy the refreshing scent.
  • Mix 6 drops into your favorite brownie batter to make mint chocolate brownies.
  • Diffuse 2 drops of peppermint, 2 drops of lavender, and 2 drops of lemon when you have allergies or a cold to help clear congestion.
  • Add to 2 drops to your lip gloss tube and you have minty fresh breath each time you put it on

2. Lavender

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: Calming effect, helping to fall asleep, skin irritations, hair health.

The relaxing experience of lavender fragrance helps to relieve mild anxiety and has also been used internally for mood imbalances such as anxiety, insomnia, and gastrointestinal distress, including “nervous stomach

Uses:

  • Add a few drops of oil to lotions, shampoos, and skin care products or 1cup Epsom salt and 4 drops oil to a hot bath.
  • Make a homemade body scrub with coconut oil, sugar, and Lavender essential oil.
  • Spray your pillow with distilled water and Lavender mixed in a spray bottle before bed to help you relax and fall asleep faster.
  • You can apply it directly to any irritation of the skin. (burns, bug bites)
  • *My favorite way to use lavender*Add a few drops of lavender oil to your mascara bottle, to help your eyelashes grow longer and thicker. (Won’t ruin your mascara or change the consistency. I was very nervous about putting it in my expensive mascara, so I tested it on a cover girl brand first.) I have tried Latisse, and am so much happier with the results of using Lavender.  You can also add a few drops to your shampoo and conditioner.

3. Lemon

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: Energizing, Circulatory support, Cleaning, freshen the air, digestion, respiratory function, stains on surfaces and clothes, cooking.

Uses:

  • Add 1-2 drops of lemon to your water bottle(glass only) to give it a lemony taste and help digestion without the bad acid on your teeth.
  • Replace lemon zest in recipes with a couple drops of lemon oil to help bring out the natural flavors in your ingredients.
  • Add a few drops to hard to get off stains on clothes or surfaces.
  • Polish your tarnished silver with a few drops of lemon oil.
  • Natural Goo-Be-Gone. Rub on hard to peel off stickers or labels.

4. Frankincense

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: Treating anxiety and depression, improving skin, spiritual (commonly used in churches), weak fingernails.

Using frankincense can significantly help alleviate negative moods, and help a person turn around a bad slump.

Uses:

  • Add Frankincense to your daytime lotion or night cream to keep your skin looking young and radiant.
  • Apply directly on scars to help fade the appearance.
  • Diffuse during your yoga or spiritual ritual.

Side note: I suffer from anxiety/depression. I have started diffusing this at night time and in my office while I work and I swear it just calms me down. 

5.Valor

Valor can be used to promote feelings of courage, confidence, and self– esteem. A truly unique blend of Black Spruce, Blue Tansy, Camphor Wood, Geranium, and Frankincense. Great for massages too!

Use it to greet each morning with a positive attitude or to refocus at the end of a challenging day. Valor is also used to alleviate snoring,

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

  • Uplifts Mood: Rub onto wrists, back of neck, or behind your ears to help uplift your mood. Use it to greet each morning with a positive attitude or to unwind at the end of the day
  • Courage & Confidence: Rub onto wrists, back of neck, or behind your ears to help give you courage in stressful situations (hence the name of the oil)
  • Calming Environment: Diffuse in your house to help calm your mood and the moods of others in your home
  • Calm Children: Rub a drop on your child’s big toe before bed to help calm them down to go to sleep. Or, using  a carrier oil, you can massage it into the bottoms of your child’s feet
  • Tension: Rub some on your temples or on the back of your neck to relieve tension
  • Balance Energy: Apply to wrists, bottoms of your feet, or over your heart to help balance your energy. Valor is the first and most important oil used in the raindrop technique massage for this reason

6. Thieves

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: disinfecting, immune system support, think of Thieves as Emergenc-E that you buy at the drugstore. If you’re feeling any kind of sick, diffuse and apply topically immediately.

Uses:

  • Add one drop to the soles of your feet anytime you feel your immune system is low.
  • Mix 10 drops with 1 oz witches hazel, and 3 oz distilled water in a spray bottle for an all-purpose natural cleaner.
  • Add 5 drops to a cup of baking soda and sprinkle on carpet overnight before vacuuming to help removed musty smells.
  • Add a few drops to your dishwasher detergent to help clean dishes and eliminate odors.

7. Purification

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: cleansing, removing odors

Uses:

  • Add a few drops to laundry that sat in the washer too long to prevent musty smell.
  • Add a few drops to a cotton ball and put it in your vacuum bag less compartment to prevent dusty smell when vacuuming.
  • Add 10 drops to 5 oz of distilled water in a spray bottle to make all natural Febreeze.
  • Diffuse through house to eliminate odors

8. DiGize

Ways to Use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: digestive support

Uses:

  • Add a few drops to a veggie capsule when having a stomach ache or just to support healthy digestive functions.
  • When having cramps, rub a few drops over the skin in that area.

9. Panaway

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: Muscle pain

Uses:

  • Add a few drops to a carrier oil and massage on sore muscles.

10. Stress Away

Ways to use: Diffuse, Topically, Internally

Great for: Reducing Stress, relaxation, boosting mood, calming effects,

Uses:

  • Use the roller ball (included in the kit) and apply to neck when feeling stressed
  • Add a few drops to a cotton ball and place it in the air vent of your car during long drives or during rush-hour traffic to create a calming environment.
  • Apply to your wrists or back of the neck while at work or school to enjoy its calming scent.
  • Diffuse with lavender at bedtime to promote a healthy night of sleep.

11. Raven

Raven is (yet another) essential oil blend unique to Young Living and consists of ravintsara, lemon, wintergreen, peppermint, and eucalyptus radiata. It can be used to make your own chest rub to apply over the chest and throat. Simply add a warm compress over top to result in a calming aroma. Raven is a must-have for every home during the winter months!

12. Peace and Calming

Peace & Calming is a gentle, sweet blend of Ylang Ylang, Orange, Tangerine, Patchouli, and Blue Tansy and is one of Young Living’s most popular essential oil blends. With a calming, sweet aroma, this blend is one you’ll love using during your children’s bedtime and for yourself after the house has settled down.

Great for: Anxiety, Depression, Sadness, Emotional Support. When diffused, it helps calm tension and uplifts the spirit, promoting relaxation and a deep sense of peace.

Uses:

  • Peace: Diffuse Peace and Calming essential oil in your home to create a sense of peace….and calming!
  • Occasional Stress: Apply Peace and Calming to wrists, over your heart, or behind your ears before a stressful event (like say the holidays) to keep your calm. It provides nervous system support during times of stress
  • Relaxation: Using a carrier oil, such as coconut oil, use as a massage oil to have a very calming massage
  • Perfume: This oil smells so wonderful that I use it as a perfume, and it keeps me calm all day long. You can extend it’s effects by using it in a diffuser necklace — like these
  • Sleep: Rub Peace and Calming on your child’s big toe or, using a carrier oil, massage into feet for a relaxing night sleep and to help calm your mind before bed. Promotes restful sleep
  • Relaxing Bath: Make a bath salt mixture using 1 cup epsom salts and 15 drops Peace and Calming. Add to bathwater and let the relaxation begin
  • Calm Kids: Diffuse Peace and Calming essential oil in your house to create a calming environment for your children. This works especially well during the winter months for cabin fever
  • Gifts: This oil is one of my favorite oils to give to new Moms as a gift
  • Pets: Dilute in a carrier oil and smooth onto the coats of nervous pets during stressful situations like traveling or during thunderstorms
